The City of Clovis employs the "single stream" method of recycling in which all recyclable material other than green waste goes into the blue toter. Some of the types of material to include in the blue toter are:
- Newspaper (including inserts, advertisements, and coupons)
- Office paper
- Computer paper
- Junk mail
- Telephone books
- Brown paper bags
- Colored paper
- Construction paper
- Shoe boxes
- Cereal and similar food boxes
- Paper milk cartons
- Paper egg cartons
- Corrugated cardboard
- Beverage boxes
- Glass bottles of any color
- Aluminum (including beverage containers, foil, and food containers)
- Batteries (must be placed in a zip lock bag and set on top of container)
- Cellphones (must be placed in a zip lock bag and set on top of container)
- Tin or bi-metal cans
- Small pieces of scrap metal weighing less than 10 pounds and fitting in container
- Plastics number 1 through 7
- Lids or caps should be removed from all recycled containers, and all recycled materials should be rinsed clean of food residue.

Rules and Schedules
Greenwaste - Christmas Trees - Used Oil
- Green waste material shall be placed in the green cart.
Acceptable greenwaste material shall be as follows:
- Grass clippings
- Other organic materials normally resulting from landscape maintenance
- Green waste material shall not exceed 3 inches in diameter or 3 feet in length
Food Waste Recycling/Diversion
The stand and all decorations must be removed from the Christmas trees. If possible, the trees should be cut and placed in the greenwaste cart. Otherwise, they should be placed at the curb. Christmas trees that are placed at the curb will be collected the first two weeks of January.
Used Motor Oil
Up to 1 gallon of used motor oil per week per single-family residence will be collected. It should be placed in a plastic container(s) with a secure lid(s) adjacent to the recycling containers, and should be clearly identified as motor oil.
Pursuant to the California Waste Management Act of 1989 (Public Resources Code §§ 40000 et seq.), the City of Clovis is required to prepare, adopt and implement source reduction and recycling plans to reach landfill diversion goals. Debris from construction, demolition, and renovation of buildings represents a particularly suitable portion of the volume of waste presently coming from the City of Clovis for recycling and reuse.
Prior to starting a Covered Project, an applicant, except when using an Authorized C&D Debris Collector, shall submit a complete Waste Management Plan to the Compliance Official. An applicant that chooses to utilize an Authorized C&D Debris Collector to haul, process and dispose of all C&D debris from a project shall be exempt from the Waste Management Plan requirements of Section 6.3.1.06 and the reporting requirements of Section 6.3.1.07 (CMC).
Effective August 1, 2013, no person shall provide the collection of C&D Debris in the City unless they first receive a franchise to engage in such activity from the City.
