How do I set up or change my trash and recycling service?

To set up your trash and recycling service please contact the City of Lafayette Finance Department at 303-665-5588 Option 5. To change your trash container size, please contact Republic Services at 303-286-2400.

Can plastic bags be recycled?

No, plastic bags are not currently recyclable in our containers. For information on recycling plastic bags, please visit Eco-Cycle center at ecocycle.org/charm.

Do you pick up oversized trash items like furniture and oversized items?

Yes, items such as home furnishings, mattresses, carpet and appliances require special handling and 24-hour advance notice. Contact Republic Services for bulk waste service details - applicable charges may apply.

How do I report a missed pickup?

Contact Republic Services at 303-286-2400 to report a missed pickup.

How do I report a damaged container?

Contact Republic Services at 303-286-2400 to schedule repair/replacement of a damaged trash container. Recycle container repair/replacement is handled by the City of Lafayette by calling 303-665-5588, Option 5.

Will my service be delayed by holidays?

Yes, residential collection may be delayed due to the following holidays:
Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
As a general rule, holidays push our residential pickup schedules back one day with regular schedules resuming the following week. Check your service calendar or contact Republic Services for details.

Do you collect old TVs, stereos and computers?

No. The City of Lafayette partners with licensed e-waste recyclers to offer an electronic waste event every January and September. Visit this website for more information.

How do I dispose of cooking oil?

Large amounts of cooking oil should not be flushed into drains or septic tanks and can be recycled at a Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Items can be taken to 1901c 63rd Street, Boulder, CO 80301. This service is FREE to Lafayette residents with proof of residency. Visit www.bouldercounty.org, click on Environment & Sustainability, then Hazardous Waste, to reach the Hazardous Materials Management Facility (HMMF) for more information and a list of accepted items, or call 720-564-2251.

Do you take hazardous waste?

No, Republic Services does not collect hazardous waste. Hazardous waste is illegal to discard in your solid waste or recycling containers. Items can be taken to 1901c 63rd Street, Boulder, CO 80301. Do you accept medical waste?

Yes, please contact Republic Services customer service for disposal options. For prescription drugs ONLY, there is a prescription drug take back box located at the Police Department Monday through Friday during business hours.

How can I rent a debris box or dumpster?

Before requesting for this service, you must apply for a Right of Way (ROW) permit from the City of Lafayette. Dumpster rentals will not be scheduled until ROW permit is in place.

Is it required to bag items before placing in container?

  • Trash Container: Yes, we strongly encourage you to place all of your trash in bags and then place the bags inside your City of Lafayette trash container. This will cut down on wind-blown litter during servicing.
  • Recycle Container: Recycle items should not be bagged at all.
  • Organics Container: We strongly encourage organic items to be placed in compostable bags, such as store-bought compostable bags or paper bags.

Do you take appliances?

Items such as appliances, mattresses and home furnishings require special handling and 24-hour advance notice. For hard to recycle materials, visit Eco-Cycle center at ecocycle.org/charm. Contact us for applicable charges or to schedule a pickup. Republic Services cannot accept any items containing Freon.

Do you take old tires?

No, Colorado state law does not allow Republic Services to accept tires. Tire recycling may be available at your local tire vendors for a small fee.

Do you provide emergency response or disaster recovery services?

Yes. When disaster strikes, Republic Services can be there to help and support recovery efforts in providing critical waste collection and disposal services backed by our nationwide network of people, equipment and facilities. Republic Services works nationwide to support disaster management plans that comply with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regulations well before an emergency strikes.​
